Rod Simpson

Rod Simpson was admitted as a lawyer in 2001 and worked for Price Waterhouse Coopers Legal and as inhouse legal counsel for Steinhoff Asia Pacific before joining Simpson Partners Lawyers.

Rod has developed expertise in a huge range of practice areas including corporations law, complex property transactions, business and commercial matters,  compulsory acquisitions, development application appeals, strata management law, purchase and sale of businesses, leasing and franchising, personal injury compensation, wills and estates, estate disputes matters as well as many others.

His clients have included large multinational corporations, small and medium size businesses, property developers, franchisor, franchisees, owners corporations, and thousands of couples and individuals.

Some of the types of work Rod has undertaken include mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring, providing advice on Corporations Act matters including corporate governance issues, compliance matters and dealing with breaches, drafting complex business and share sale agreements including for the acquisition of businesses, conducting due diligence for large and complex organisations, drafting a negotiating finance and security documents including for major infrastructure projects and speculative property acquisitions, drafting sponsorship agreements, drafting and negotiating leases, licences, transfers of lease, surrenders of lease and franchise agreements, franchise disputes, buying and selling businesses, acting for land owners and business owners when their land or the place they operate their business from is being compulsory acquired by a governmental agency, development application appeals for various property developers, drafting joint venture agreements and option agreements for property transaction, drafting supply agreements, crane oversail and anchoring licences, wills including with complex testamentary trusts, applications for Probate, Grants of letters of Administration and Reseals in difficult or complex circumstances, family provision claims.

Rod is also a notary public and regularly provides notary services to clients.

With a deep understanding of many areas of the law, Rod is able to deliver comprehensive and thorough legal services to his clients. He is quickly able to understand complex commercial and personal issues and to find practical and cost effective ways of resolving them for his clients.

Rod keeps up to date with changes in the law by regularly engaging in continuing legal education programs and masterclasses.

He is a Chartered Secretary, a Fellow of the Chartered Governance Institute and Governance Institute of Australia as well as a fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia and a full registered Trust and Estate Practitioner with STEP (the international Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners)
